Cross Posted to Other Rat Groups Also. . .
I was doing a booth for the Samoyed dog rescue that I am assistant director of when a lady approached me and asked if I knew anyone who could bottle feed baby rats because the father had killed the mother and the woman was having back surgery that week and couldn't do it herself. Having had previous experience with other animals and being a rat lover, I said I certainly would love and care for these poor little babies. . .
I've only had adult rats, so I had no idea that they matured sexually so fast and now I have babies! Lots of babies! They are fully weaned now and, having watched them grow up with all their cute little personalities, I do not want to just take them to a pet store for fear they will wind up snake food. I didn't care for them the way I did, invest money in bigger housing, toys, food, etc--not to mention my heart, to have that happen. I was wondering if anyone else has had this accident happen and how did they find good folks to adopt them so they would be pets and not food. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Ooops! What to do???
Thu, February 8, 2007 - 2:15 PMWhere I live there is a rat rescue for problems like this. I found out about them because they posted a flier at the local SPCA. There might not be one in your area, but it might be worth checking your SPCA. -

Re: Ooops! What to do???
Thu, February 8, 2007 - 2:19 PMThere is one in my area but their general policy is that they only pick up rats at shelters and not from folks who had an accident. That's what their website says at least. If I can't find good homes for them, I think I will call them and see if they'll make an exception. -

Thank you all for the great advice! I'm going to be making a flyer for the little Ratigans tomorrow and post the ads on those recommended websites. Let's hope that I can find some great Rattie parents for my little fuzzies who love them as much as I do!
. . . Now off to see if I can actually get them to hold still long enough to take a cute picture. . . Yeah, right! LOL! -
